Edit 5 December 2016: These results have been updated per the tenth year standards update.
Edit 15 May 2019: Questions one and three offered participants the options of providing a nickname and email address, respectively. This information was initially kept confidential and was later deleted to fully anonymize the results. Question two, intended as a way to match participants across multiple surveys in the series without providing otherwise-identifying information, was removed early in data collection.
Questions # 4-7
4) Do you consider yourself to be:
N=1479 | % | Option | |
1 | 283 | 19% | DL only (loves diapers, but no roleplay) |
2 | 503 | 34% | mostly DL but sometimes AB |
3 | 292 | 20% | AB+DL equally |
4 | 150 | 10% | mostly AB but sometimes DL |
5 | 157 | 11% | only AB (loves roleplay, generally including diapers) |
6 | 12 | 1% | non-AB/DL ageplayer |
7 | 6 | 0% | non-AB/DL BDSM enthusiast |
8 | 76 | 5% | Other |
The 'Other' option included a blank to fill in. While they couldn't be analyzed statistically, these answers were interesting and enlightening. This question was intended to map of AB/DLs on a single axis, ranging from AB to DL. An 'other' option was provided, in case that single axis didn't capture the range of AB/DL interests. The answers provided showed that there was a substantial list of other axes not addressed by this question. (Some were addressed in later question, and others will be addressed in later surveys.)
Rejecting the AB/DL spectrum, a minority of the participants treated the question as an opportunity to summarize their interests in a few words. Some did a pretty good job. As is often the case with surveys, the minorities are as educational as the masses. Here is a sampling of the 'other' responses.
