Survey - AB/DL Practices - 1 - Media

This section explored the media items that AB/DLs enjoy. These might include pictures, stories, movies, songs, TV ads, etc. Some were created by AB/DLs themselves, and others were created with no awareness that AB/DLs existed.

The first hurdle that was faced when constructing the survey was the size of the libraries of some participants. These libraries might include dozens, hundreds, or possibly thousands of items. To narrow things down, the following instructions were given:

When asked about your favorite AB/DL-related picture, story, or video, which one comes to mind first? Please keep that one item in mind when answering the following questions. It is OK if this item wasn't created by or for AB/DLs. There isn't a right or wrong choice. Please answer at least the first question.

Constructing the following questions was difficult because very little could be assumed about the media item. They might range from conventional pornography to Disney movies. It should be noted that while the results are averaged together here, the different tastes and items are not necessarily interchangeable.

Even after selecting one favorite media item, the following question about a character in the item could be ambiguous if there were multiple characters. To narrow things down, the following instructions were given:

The next four questions relate to a character in that picture, story, etc. Consider the character who is most important to your enjoyment of it. This character might not be the most important to the picture or story itself. If different answers apply at different times in a story, answer based on the part of the story that you enjoy most.
